The disaster could be the Tsunami in Japan last year which would make the time quite modern or going into the future if it shows her growing up?

That sounds good. So it would be placed in modern Japan? If so it allows more of a futuristic vibe to it. There could even be androids and such.

I think we should stray away from earth and Japan. Sense this is going to be fantasy we should create our own world and different dimensions.

if it was futuristic we could have the beings travel from earth to another inhabital planet due to a giant disaster on earth

Okay i can see where this is going. A disaster happens on Earth and due to that the space travel agency took all of the citizens to a new planet they believed to be habitable. Something they didn't know was that there was something already living on that planet. This thing is still mystery but the MC came into contact with it which triggered her forgotten memories. So she travels back to Old Earth, or whatever, to seek for her missing family.

So far that seems great and maybe the event that was so shocking was connected to the destruction of earth

Sounds like a plan. Also, we can have her twin brother be apart of the worlds destruction plan since he disappeared a long time ago. Her mother could have been somewhat like a queen or a goddess. lol. Something on those lines seems alright to me.
